I’m a firm believer that there are two top tier compliments in the world. The first: you smell good. The second: you’re so soft. And I am prepared to die on this hill. While the former is achieved with a simple one-two spritz of your favourite scent, the latter is no easy feat. Particularly as new body care items pop up almost daily, it can be overwhelming to know which body products are worth it and which ones are just gimmicks.
So, as a self-proclaimed body care junkie, I thought it my civic duty to share my routine with you all. Now, be warned: it is excessive. But it’s not hurting anyone so I figure it’s fine. Obviously, you don’t need to use every single one of these products and it is just about finding what works for you but if you are in need of a little guidance, let this steer you in the right direction.
Goop G.TOX Ultimate Dry Brush, $43
The first step in achieving silky smooth skin? Exfoliating. And my exfoliating starts outside the shower. Dry body brushing has a never-ending list of benefits including lymphatic drainage, promoting blood flow and, obviously, removing dead skin cells so it’s a great thing to do once or twice a week to keep your skin turning over and healthy. I love this Goop dry body brush because it has a handle which makes it super easy to use and the bristles are just the right amount of abrasive to slough away dead skin without causing irritation.
ELEFFECT The Exfoliating Mitt, $12.95
One thing about my body care routine is that it is extra. But I want to give you all the product recommendations because, well, I’m just that kind of gal. This ELEFFECT exfoliating mitt I typically use once a week when scrubbing off any fake tan or when I think my skin needs a really good exfoliation. It’s heavy duty so there’s no need to use it in excess or you may risk irritating the skin. Use in the shower once your skin has been given the chance to soak in the warm water for a few minutes and watch your smoothest, most even skin reveal itself.
Okay, okay, I promise that this is the last exfoliating product. But, hear me out. I don’t use all of these together, everyday, at the same time. They have very different (lol) and specific purposes. This LUI Body Polish is the gentle exfoliator to use throughout the week to maintain the supple skin you’ve worked so hard to create in your everything shower. It’s gentle, effective and contains ingredients like salicylic acid and charcoal powder to remove impurities and shea butter to nourish and leave the skin supple and hydrated.
Avene XeraCalm A.D. Lipid-Replenishing Cleansing Oil, $22.69
One of the most underrated body care items, in my opinion, is the perfect body wash. Those filled with soaps and additives can really dry out your skin without you even realising and I’ve found that a lot of the heavily fragranced formulas, while they do smell delicious, can cause irritation and itchiness in spades. Enter: this Avene Cleansing Oil. A gentle, soap-free cleansing oil that works to effectively cleanse while also replenishing the lipid barrier of the skin and protecting it against the drying effects of water, this ‘body wash’ is key in keeping my skin soft and glowing.
Kopari Ultra Restore Firming Body Serum, $85
Now this could quite possibly be the biggest game changer product in my body care routine. Let it be known: it is incredible. I apply it as the first step in my post-shower body care regimen (pre-body lotion) and my skin has never ever been so even-toned, smooth and silky. A peptide-packed serum that deeply hydrates, tightens, smooths and restores the skin, it works to support the natural skin barrier and keep all the good stuff in and all the bad stuff out. Particularly as we roll into the colder months, this is a must-have.
Glossier Body Hero Daily Perfecting Lotion, $52
If you don’t know, now you know: Glossier ships to Australia. Which means you, like me, can now stockpile this Glossier Body Hero Lotion for skin that is ultra-nourished and hydrated. My favourite thing about this lotion is that a little goes a long way and it is super fast absorbing while also being super replenishing. Infused with orange blossom neroli, glycerin and avocado oil, this formula is unrivalled for me and works seamlessly with the Kopari serum. A match made in heaven.
Costa Brazil Kaya Jungle Firming Body Oil, $168
Particularly in the colder months, I find that my skin drinks products and sometimes needs a little something extra to keep it feeling smooth and supple. So, adding a body oil to my routine is the easiest fix I’ve found—and I love this Costa Brazil one. Formulated with kaya, cacay and brazil nut oil as well as murumuru butter, this oil has all the essential vitamins, fatty acids and omegas in it to keep your skin glowing and nourished. I apply it as the final step in my body care routine at night and then wake up with healthy-looking skin every time.
Tan-Luxe The Gradual Illuminating Body Moisturiser, $41
Less of an essential and more of a little luxury, if I feel like my skin needs some help with the glow factor, I always reach for the Tan-Luxe Gradual Tan. The perfect tone for my skin, this develops into an even and subtle colour that just gives you back that oomph and confidence that a day in the sunshine can. It is also great to use to top up a full fake tan throughout the week to keep it looking even and natural.
CHANEL Les Beiges Healthy Glow Illuminating Oil, $58
Finishing this list with a bang, body care wouldn’t be complete without an illuminating product for those nights out when you want your legs or décolletage to glow. This dry illuminating oil from CHANEL is one of the best formulas I’ve found as it doesn’t transfer and the glow particles are ultra-fine which means the look is less-disco and more-island-time luminosity. It also smells divine.
